I remember unboxing a Super Nintendo back one childhood Christmas as a gift from my parents. It came with the most important games, Super Mario World and Mario Karts. I quickly opened the box, connected the wires and plugging in the first cartridge. After flicking the power switch and waiting a few seconds for the intro screens to pass, these two words appeared in the centre of the screen.
This was really the first step and the point when things got real. Sometimes we can get so focused on setting up the console and getting things in order that we don’t even press start.
This isn’t just about computer games though, it’s also true of many other areas. Writing a novel, learning a foreign language, playing a gig and so on. Many people never achieve these goals and that’s a terrible shame. Especially when you consider that most people’s regrets are caused by lack of action and not by actions taken.
Most of the time, the key failure is that people don’t even start. The person who wants to lose weight promises that tomorrow will be the day they start their new exercise routine, and the wannabe novelist dreams of writing a book when they haven’t even drafted their characters or written down their plot. Pressing start is the most important step towards achieving those dreams. Not waiting but taking action.
That’s why I called this site Press Start, because I want to help people take a first step in the right direction. To help them launch their website that will support those goals. (It’s also a clever play on words with WordPress…get it…start using WordPress).
A place for a writer to test out their stories online and direct a publisher to. For the small shop to help connect with new customers on the other side of the world. For the person who wants to start their own business, a place where they can direct clients to.
Press Start Today
Today I’m pressing start on this site and business. As my cursor hovers over the publish button I’m officially going to press start and begin. I invite you to do the same today and contact me. Maybe we won’t work together but I’ll certainly help you head in the right direction.
